BUILDING

Design
The Press Block is nine stories at its tallest height with six high-end townhouses and 132 distinguished suites, along with commercial spaces on the Barrington street level. The design approach was conceived by acclaimed architects, interpreters, planners and urban developers who are deeply rooted in the community. Their vision is for the conservation of heritage elements to be both compatible and discernable from the new, contemporary pieces. Harmony triumphs as an unparalleled visual narrative in the state of an architectural masterpiece.

The view from Barrington south showcases its metropolitan side, with an 11' tall window wall framing the lobby, accented with soft lighting and clean, recessed lines. Maintaining much of the existing stone and masonry, stylised cast iron and copper cladding, windows and sills for the remaining portions defines the building's character. Given the dynamic nature of the site, archival photographs were used to reference source materials and ensure the fabric of its heritage is retained. These intentions set a precedent in Halifax for preserving coveted features, which are unique to the city's distinct architecture.
